ENJOY THE VIEW

August 21st, 2008

If you want to see a mixture of sport, culture and nature I suggest you one of the best places in Barcelona, a place full of history: Montjuic.estadio de montjuic 1 2 3

Montjuic starts off in ‘plaza España’ going through the two magnificent Venetian Towers (which are copies of the towers in San Marco square in Venice); from there you will see the magic fountains (the ones I described to you in a previous blog). At the end you will see the amazing National Art Museum of Cataluña. At the sides of the museum there are two big buildings where almost every weekend there is a fair. Some of them are very popular like the fashion fair Bread & Butter, cars exhibitions and many more. Read the rest of this entry »

OLYMPIC GAMES BEIJING 2008

August 3rd, 2008

Hi everyone!!! This summer is full of sports’ emotions and especially for Spain, who lastly seems to be winning always :P. After the European football championship ‘08, where Spain was the winner :D … we are thinking to update you with news from the Olympic Games 2008.

The original Olympic Games were first recorded in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece (and there is where they got the name from). Every four years men from all over Greece were gathered in a sport festival to honor their gods Zeus and Hera.

The Olympic Games are now divided into summer and winter Olympic Games. This year, the Summer Olympic Games will take place in China, in the capital Beijing. As many of you come from different countries and even different continents, it would be great to open the school blog in the morning and get some news (mostly :P ) about Spain and of Read the rest of this entry »

SAGRADA FAMILIA

July 30th, 2008

Hello everyone! Hope you are all fine! I see you are all very tanned! You are really enjoying ‘las playas de Barcelona’ :)

Today I would like to write something about the Sagrada Familia, the only temple still in construction in the world (125 years in construction). It is also the only temple in the world that receives donations by volunteer people to continue the construction, as it does not get any funds from the Government. I find it a gigantic and pageantry building; I was impressed by all the little details that were worked up on it.

This is the most famous work of Gaudi; he dedicated all his life to this building; he would even sleep inside the temple to have more time to work on it. The construction of the temple started in 1881 and the initiator was ‘Josep Maria Bocadella’. The beginning was very difficult because of budget problems (which are still ongoing and this is one of the reasons why this great temple is still in construction). The first budget for the building of the temple was 1034 € (125 years ago!), a money which Bocadella kept under the floor tiles of his store because he was afraid someone could steal that. Our Teachers - Alejandro (Alex)

July 17th, 2008

Hello everybody!

Today we want to introduce you to another one of our teachers, Alex. You might know him for being a football fan but if you keep on reading you will get to know a lot more about him.

Check out to what he has to answer to our questionnaire…

Good morning. Can you tell us what’s your name and where are you from?

Well, my name is an easy one, Alex, a quite international name as well. My surname, Superviel, quite French. I don’t know the origin of this surname, I guess I owe it to a ‘traveller’ ancestor!

I was born in the south of Spain but moved to Barcelona when I was just 3 months old and lived there since then. Therefore, I consider myself more ‘Barcelonés’ than ‘Andaluz’.

Let us know, why did you become a teacher? Read the rest of this entry »

Euro Football Cup 2008 - Spain wins the final

June 27th, 2008

Hi everyone! SPAIN in the FINAL!!! ESPAÑA a la FINAL!!!

We are all happy to celebrate the winning against Germany on Sunday :D .

This Euro football tournament has been magnificent!!! I’ve really enjoyed all the matches and especially here in Camino, as we all are from different countries. All teams played wonderful and it was like most of them were whiskered as winner.

I really have to say congratulations to Russia and Turkey! Who would have thought that they would beat countries like Netherlands and Croatia and go to the semi-final? Turkey had a great performance in the field. They lost versus Germany, although I think Turkey played much better and deserved to win. All Turkey’s matches were Read the rest of this entry »

Grec’08: Barcelona Summer Arts Festival

June 25th, 2008

Hello everyone,

If you like going to concerts, theatres and contemporary dance, prepare yourself: Right after the Sonar Festival, there is only a few days left before the beginning of the Grec’08 Barcelona’s annual summer arts festival.

The festival is scheduled this year from 25th June to 2nd August 2008 and the shows will take place in various spots around the city: The ‘Teatro Grec’, ‘Mercat de les Flors’, ‘Plaza del Rei’, ‘CCCB’, ‘L’auditori’, ‘Teatro Lliure’, ‘TNC’, ‘Palau de la Música Catalana’, ‘MACBA’, ‘Fundación Joan Miró’ etc. etc. For complete information, check the section “Venues”:

Every year I put a big post-it on my agenda not to forget to check their programme because there is one venue I particularly fancy: The ‘Teatro Grec’. Read the rest of this entry »

Euro Football Cup 08 - The quarter finals

June 18th, 2008

Hi everyone!!!

Here we are again with some news about the European championship. Seven countries have already passed to the quarters; today we are waiting for the last country to pass, Sweden or Russia. The only big surprise of the Championship was that France did not go through to the next leg, but considering in which group they were, one of the ‘big’ teams had to come back home soon…

So, Germany, Portugal, Croatia, Turkey, Netherlands, Italy and Spain have passed to the quarter finals. We are going to see very interesting matches this week, starting with Germany – Portugal. After the win versus Austria with the result of 1-0, the German press has warmed up its tone for the players and especially for Ballack. Germany’s problem right now is Lukas Podolski who might not play in the quarter final match versus Portugal, because he was injured in calf. This is really good news for Portugal :) .On the other side the goalkeeper Jens Lehman said that he is prepared for the match and that he knows a secret way to stop Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal. However Germany has a lot to improve in its game and this was clearly seen in its last match versus Austria. The match Germany – Portugal will be very difficult, where Portugal is whiskered as winner. Read the rest of this entry »
